Notes for DANIEL MARION COSTON:
DANIEL MARION COSTON was born near the town of Middleton, in Hardeman County Tennessee on January 18th, 1867. He was the second son of William Thomas & Sarah Taylor Coston, who had moved there from the eastern county of Blount after the Civil War. Daniel's mother died when he was just a small boy and was raised by his stepmother, Nancy L. (Norton). As he grew up, his family relocated a few times. Once to northern Mississippi then back again to Tennessee.
He married Sarah E.A. Moore, December 19th, 1889 in Hardeman County, TN. It appears they moved to Arkansas, sometime in the early 1890s, where his father and brother, William H., were already living. Here, brother Willam met and married his wife, Claude. Daniel's youngest brother, Thomas had been born here in 1885. Daniel's stepmother, Nancy died a few years later.
In 1900 the Federal Census show them all living as close neighbors in Delta County, Texas. Here, two daughters had been born; Zula Pearl, August 18th, 1897 and Dora L. , July 18th, 1899. By this time, Daniel and Sarah had already lost four of their six children. He was renting a property and farming to support his family. In just a few years he moved everyone to the county of Cooke and on July 14th, 1903 their son, Ralph Marion Coston, was born in the town of Bulcher. Two years later on July 21st, 1905, Glenn Moore Coston was born. Sometime between 1910 and 1920 the family left north Texas and moved to San Antonio. Zula and Dora had already married and Daniel, Sarah, Ralph, and Glenn were living on Los Angeles Street. Daniel and Ralph were working as "packers" for a wholesale dry-goods company. Sometime in the late '20s Daniel began renting property on the farm of, Allen Forbes, Glenn's doctor. Later they moved again to an area just north of San Antonio. Then in the '30s, after his son Ralph purchased a farm near Floresville, Texas, just south of San Antonio, Daniel, Sarah and Glenn began living there. In the '50s Daniel again moved his family of three; this time back to San Antonio to a house on Sacramento Street. Here they stayed until Zula & Dora's concern caused them to place Daniel and Sarah in a nursing home. After having lived a long life, Daniel passed away at the age of 92. That was September 14th, 1959. Sarah died three years later on April 21st, 1962, age 94 years, 4 months. Their son, Glenn, who they had cared for since birth, died of an acute bleeding ulcer July 26th, 1967. They all rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in San Antonio.
Daniel was a farmer and loved the outdoors. He was a kind and loving man, who is fondly remembered as `quite a character' !
