CAMPBELL
Origin: Celtic & Gaelic Wry-mouth, the man whose mouth inclined a little on one side; from cam, crooked, distorted, & beul, the mouth. This ancient family may be traced as far back as the beginning of the 5th century & is said to have been possessed of Lochore, in Argylshire, as early as the time of Fergus II. Sir Colin Campbell, of Lochore, flourished toward the end of the 13th century & was called Sir Colin More, or Colin the Great. His descendants were called by the Irish McCallen, that is, the descendants of Colin.
(Etymological Dictionary of Family & Christian names)

The oldest CAMPBELL family member is Francis CAMPBELL born in Co. Cork in 1809. In 1836, he married Sarah NOBLET (of Huguenot origins) in the Diocese of Ossory. Later generations have branched out and now live in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa & the United States.
