Cannon of 504 Academy Street died Sunday at 8:30 PM in University Hospital , Baltimore, following surgery. On Friday he became ill and was removed to Dorchester General Hospital and after examination was transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital where heart surgery was performed, but due to his critical condition and his age, he failed to respond to treatment. He was born in Cambridge, Nov. 28, 1893, being 80, the son of the late M. Burgoyne and Lucy Elizabeth Foxwell Cannon. He was born, raised and spent his entire life in Cambridge. He attended public schools here and as a young man, joined his father working on the water. He remained in this work his enite life and was one of the most widely known watermen in this area. Capt. Cannon was a gifted vocal soloist and during his life had been a member of several singing groups; for a number of years he was soloist at Christ Episcopal Church here. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Magnolia Lankford Cannon to whom he was married on Dec. 28, 1915. One Daughter, Mrs. Ethel Durandetto of Salisbury; five sons, Wallace L., Robert H., Ogle Jr., Donald B., and Eldridge W. Cannon, all of Cambridge; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Layton of Cambridge; four brothers, G. Elmer, Samuel M., and Philip L. Cannon of Cambridge and S. Cannon of Cambridge died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997 at her home. She was 102. Born April 28, 1894 at Cokeland, she was the daughter of the late Luther J. and Elnora Hurley Lankford. Mrs. Cannon attended schools in Sharptown. In December 1915, she married a local waterman, Ogle B. Cannon. He died in August 1974. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Navy Mothers. She was active at the MAC Center and in the 1980's made more than 50 lap robes, which were donated to V.A. hospitals at Elsmere and Perry Point. Mrs. Cannon is survived by a daughter, Ethel Cannon Durandetto of Cambridge, four sons, Robert H. Cannon, Eldridge W. Cannon, Donal B. Cannon and Ogle B. "Timmie" Cannon Jr., all of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. A son Wallace L. CANNON DIES AT HOSPITAL _________________________ Born at Hoopers Island and Had Followed The Water During Entire Life _______________ News of the death of Capt. M. Burgoyne Cannon, who died at the Cambridge, Maryland Hospital yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock came as a distnct shock to his many friends in Cambridge and the county. Capt. Cannon suffered a fall at his home Friday morning, which resulted in a broken hip. He was carried to the hospital where he succumbed from embolism. He was born and reared at Hoopers Island and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cannon of that place. He was 84 years 3 mnths and 25 days of age. Captain Berg as he was familiarly known to his many aquaintances, had followed the water his entire life or until his retirement in 1930 and was widely known throughout the tide-water sections of the state. He had resided in Cambridge for nearly half a century and during his entire residence here he had been a member of Grace Methodist Church, of this city and was also a charter member of the Baraca Class. Mr. Cannon had been a very faithful and loyal member to his church and it's precepts and had tried to live a life that exemplified the teachings of the church. He was devoted to his home and family and was a gentleman of the highest type, honest in all his transactions, sincere in his opinions, considerate and thoughtful of his family and loved ones and a man whose life stands out as an exemplary one to the community. He was twice married. His first wife who was Miss Mary E. Simmons, Hoopers Island, died September 13, 1892. By this union he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joseph E. Taitt of Cambridge. Later he married Miss Lucy Elizabeth Foxwell of Golden Hill, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by two daughters and five sons by the union; Mrs. Evelyn Layton of Cambridge, Mrs. Elizabeth Collen of Wilmington, Ogle B., G. Elmer, Samuel M., S. Burgoyne, and Phillip L. Cannon all of Cambridge. One sister, Mrs. Amanda Morgan of Cambridge. Seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral sevices will be conducted from Grace Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. Ralph J. Yow officiating. Friends may view the remains from the LeCompte Funeral Home until tomorrow at twelve o'clock. Although Mrs. Colen entered the hospital several weeks ago her condition had not been considered alarming and she had expected to return to her home in a short time fully restored to health. This past Monday week she suffered a relapse and had been critically ill since that time. She was 34 years, six months and nine days of age. She was widely known here especially among the younger set. She had been associated with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Clark Cannon as a beautician and through this connection had enjoyed a wide aquaintance and a large and select clientele. Mrs. Colen also had been associated with the Eugene of Paris Beauty Salon of Wilmington, Del. for several years and was considered a very competent beautician. She had been a member of Grace Methodist Church since early girlhood.
