Photo taken of my Great-Aunt Mertie (Mayle) Adams at the Howard House in McConnelsville, OH in 1986. Aunt Mertie married Harrison Adams, brother to my maternal Grandfather (James L. Adams, Jr.). As I reflect back now, she pretty much played the role of my 'maternal grandmother' who passed away before I was born. I often visited with her when I was a little girl. One of many memories I have of my visits was her teaching me how to make quilts -- I still have a hankie box that we came across after her death in 1987 that contains the quilt pattern, cut material, thread, needle and thimble!
