| I haven't been doing the research much for several years now, but here is what I have: Lillie Mae ROACH (1926-2000) was born in Oklahoma to Cecil Leslie ROACH (1894-1962) and Willie Ruth SMITH (1903-1979). They were a railroad family and moved around quite a bit as did Willie Ruth's family. Her parents were Walter Brown SMITH (1881-1953) and Carrie Sallie HOUFF (1881-1949). Cecil's parents were William Ransom ROACH (1861-bef. 1920) and Mamie MCCARTY (1866-1896). Mamie died while Cecil was young and he and his father moved around a lot too. I had a minor breakthrough with Mamie in some Civil War Pension documents. At least I know now that she existed and have parents and siblings names. The trail stops there for now. I have had great luck on the ROACH side, thanks to a distant cousin or two in Texas. Also the HOUFF side had a breakthrough that was quite amazing (see the web link below). My greatest challenges lie ahead, I'm afraid with the SMITH name and the other MCCARTY's. I am happy to share what I have and would love it if someone could come through the brick wall I seem to be up against.
