He married Amy 839 Carpenter October 02, 1745 in Providence, Rhode Island, daughter of Abial Carpenter and Prudence. She was born November 26, 1725 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts (Source: Carpenter Memorial, 144.), and died July 01, 1803.

Notes for Benjamin 657 Carpenter:
He moved from Swansea to Guilford, Vt., and was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Vermont. He was a man of more than ordinary intellectual power. Without any education he took a prominent part in the organization of the state of Vermont; he helped form its laws, was Lieutenant Governor, served several years as Censor, held the office of Lieutenant Colonel in the Revolutionary war, was deacon of the Baptist church and sometimes preached the Gospel.

All of page 126 in the Carpenter Memorial is about Benjamin. Page ??? has a picture of his house and gravestone. Page 127 continues on about him. The following is the inscription on his gravestone:

"Sacred to the Memory of the Late
HON. BENJAMIN CARPENTER, ESQ.
Born in Rehoboth, Mass., A.D. 1726.
A Magistrate in Rhode Island in A.D. 1764.
A public teacher of righteousness,
An able advocate to his last for Democracy;
And the equal rights of man.
Removed to this town, A.D. 1770,
Was a field officer in the Revolutionary war,
A founder of the first constitution and government of Vermont.
A counsellor of Censors in A.D. 1783,
A member of the Council and Lieutenant Governor of the state in A.D. 1779.
A firm professosr of Christianity in the Baptist church 50 years.
Left this world and 146 persons of lineal posterity March 29, 1804,
aged 78 years, 10 months and 12 days;
with a strong mind and full faith of a more glorious state hereafter.
Stature, about 6 feet, weight, 200.
Death had no terror."


Page 144: He was elected and served as Lieutenant Governor of the state of Vermont. A farmer.

She was born June 25, 1722 in Attleboro, Bristol, MA (Source: Carpenter Memorial , p93), and died January 23, 1751/52 in Pomfret, Windham, Connecticut (Source: Carpenter Memorial, p 132.). He married (2) Keziah 397 Carpenter February 14, 1741/42, daughter of Ebenezer Carpenter and Mehitabel Bishop. "To all people whom these presents shall come, Greetings; Know ye that we, Samuel Carpenter, Jr., and Keshiah Carpenter, his wife of Pomfret in the County of Windham, in the Colon of Connecticut in New England, husbandman, his wife being the daughter of Ebenezer Carpenter, late of Attleboro deceased, for and in consideration of the just sum of 190 pounds in current bills of public credit to us in hand, before the delivery hereof by our brother William Carpenter of Cumberland in the County of Providence in the Colony of Rhode Island, in New England, husbandman, * * * * sells one-fifth part of the housing and lands and common that our honored father Ebenezer Carpenter was seized and possessed of at his death, which lands and housings at his death being in Attleboro; but since by the Royal authority part of said Attleboro is annexed to the Colony of Rhode Island in which the said housings and lands now are * * we the said Samuel Carpenter and Keziah Carpenter, his wife, hereunto set their hands and seal this 10th day of November, A.D. one thousand seven hundred and forty-eight.
