Not found on census records after this. Died possible 1889-1894, Samuel (son) states Jeremiah and Elizabeth were residents of Surry Co. North Carolina. It is believed that Jeremiah is buried behind the Mt. Ple asant Church, but no graves have been found.

Jeremiah can be found in the 1840 census with his father Zachariah in Blount Co. Zachariah is listed with 2 sons between the ages of 15 to 20. Jeremiah would have been 20 years of age in this year. He didn't marry until 1843 at the age of 23.

Notes for John Housley:

It has been related that John was married to Caroline Hinshaw and Nancy J. Rig gs. Had several children by Caroline, none by Nancy. During the years in between, it is said that he had several children by two other women whom he did not marry. A Rebecca Chapman and a Caroline Woods. It is said that Nancy raised John's children.
John Housley was the eldest son of Joseph and Phoebe Longmire Owsley. He was the father of at least seventeen children, by three women. He died in 1894 and is buried at Baker's Forge Memorial Cemetery, in Campbell County.
John's first wife was Caroline Hinshaw whom he married on August 12, 1832 in Grainger County, Tennessee. The marriage record shows the name of the couple as John Ousley and Caroline Hinchey. with Samuel Gilas as the bondsman. Althoug the name was recorded as hincey, it was actually Hinshaw. The 1850 Census reflects the couple residing in Campbell Co. John Housley is recorded as being 36 years old and employed as a farmer. His wife was 34.
The marriage of John to Nancy J. Riggs on October 26, 1858, five months after the death of Caroline. Nancy was the widow of John Clark. There was no issue with this marriage. Nancy was stepmother to John and Caroline's children, and John and Rebecca Chapman's children.
John Housley had a relationship with two other women during his marriage whom bore him children. John and Caroline Woods had four children: Joseph, born in 1846, John Henry Woods, born 1851, and Sarah C. Woods Housley born abt 1854, and Crawford Wood s Housley. Children of John Housley and Rebecca Chapman were Thomas Housley, Ma rtha Housley, Franklin John Housley. During the time that John and Rebecca we re together, she gave birth to the first of these children in 1848. Rebecca al so had a relationship with a John Kincaid and bore two of his children, and wh en John found out about it, he took his three children that were born to her a nd they were raised by John and Nancy Riggs.

It is not known if it was this Aquilla Payne or one of his nephews that was ma rried to Martha Watson, since there were several listings in the Marriage reco rds. Martha Watson in buried in the Crab Orchard Cemetery next to W. F. and El izabeth Watson in Lincoln , Kentucky. (this has been clarified) Aquilla at age 18 was listed in the 1850 Rockcastle Census. (should be age 16) 1860 census l ists age as 26 with wife Martha and daughter Susan, in Crab Orchard. Occupatio n listed as farmer 1870 Lincoln Co. Kentucky census lists A. Q. Payne at age 35 with wife Martha and five children in Crab Orchard. Occupation was listed as stone mason Aquilla and his sister Ruth file a Claim of Minor Children for Bou nty Land on 2 Apr 1878, based on thier father's service in the War of 1812. T hey were the only two children who qualified under the law. A government brief of that claim, Case No. 333167, stated that Moses had received a land warrant No. 9257 for 40 acres, issued "improperly".
