My dear Jhon,

It is with pleasure I now take up my pen to write these few lines to you and hope they will find yo and your wife quite well as I am happy to say it leaves your Uncle and me quite well . Thank God for his mercies to us Dear Jhon. I dare say you will be surprised after so many years that you should receive a letter from me but it is to know whether you have heard any thing from my dear boy Jerry as I think a great deal about him and should like to know if he is dead or alive therefore if you know where he is I should be avery thankful if you would write a few lines and let me know where he is and what he is doing on. Your Uncle James is well and Aunt Charlotte is well and thats all I know about it so now I must conclude with kind love to you all and hope you will write soon from your

My Dear Cousin

I have at last taken my pen to answer your kind letter, which I received on 13th of October 1849 of which I wrote two, but received no answer of which I thing it quite strange I hope this will not meet with the same fate Dear Cousin I am quite anxious to hear from you, and your Family and to know if you have heard from my relations and what they are doing, and if so let me know either good or bad, life or death as the case may be Cousin my health is quite good, and am doing well as much so as any Solger [soldier] can do your advice to me: I am much obliged to and let me assure you it shall be done as far as lay in my power_ I have been in good many places since I seen you, and have the most off the time been in the South which has if anything improved my health - I am now at this post and it is supposed that our company will remain at this post-if so I will get my discharge here and let me assure you that I will be proud off it for I am quite tired solgering, and am sure I can make my living else how- I have yet 1 year & 10 months from the 4th of July to serve of which I long to see- and then once more will be at liberty and hope to have the pleasure of seeing you. If that time expires, with my health, I will be able to release Two Hundred Dollars and my land warente

which-- is worth at this time one hundred & fifty dollars and is supposed by many to be worth more- I have some idea of going to England to see my friends, if I go I shall go from New York City I have not the leaste

idea of settling my land for it would be two much for me and the land is government is two much in the wood and I think I could better myself but upon this I want your advise if I should dail from New York it will cost me 25 dollars, I feel quite anxious to see my friends but as to this I have as yet fuly determined- off this I want your opinion if you know of any business, that I could get at- I will be forever thankful to you for your advise- If you know wether I could exchange my 160 acres for a small place - but att all events I shall come and see you before I part with it - you will give my Love to your family - and believe me to be your friend and Cousin until Death shall part us - I hope you will answer this letter soon.

Your Cousin

Jeremiah G. Carver
