The first Caruana-Dingli was Giuseppe born in 1765. His parents were Francesco Caruana and Giovanna Dingli. He was probably allowed to adopt the double barelled surname because of his liasion with Grand Master Ferdinand von Hompesch (godfather to one of his sons). Most Caruana-Dinglis were born in Malta, a small island in the centre of the Mediterranean sea with a rich history. Other Caruana-Dinglis lived in France, Canada, Tunisia and Algeria. The family is well known in Malta because of its strong association with art. However there have been many other prominent members including a Marquis, University professors and lecturers,customs officers, officers in British and Maltese army regiments, doctors, lawyers and priests, a maestro, and the goalkeeper of the Malta waterpolo team. I have been researching this family tree for 25 years and I am very keen to contact more family members and to share my research findings. I dedicate this site to my late father Captain Mario Caruana-Dingli. He taught me to "give a future to our past". |
