* Carrouth Home Page ( Carouth, Carruth, Corruth, Carooth,...)*

Updated August 9, 2011

Hello and welcome to my FamilyTreeMaker web page.

My 7th great grandfather, James Carruth, died in 1728, in Antrim County, Ireland. My Carruth family line continued as follows. James' son Adam (my 6th g. grandfather) immigrated to Lancaster Co., Pa., in 1729 along with brothers Walter, Alexander, and probably his sister Mary Carruth Huggins and family. They moved on to Va. and N.C. in the 1740's.

Adam's son Robert (b. 1746, my 5th g. grandfather) moved on to Wilkes Co., Ga., by 1793 and is found on the 1800 Oglethorpe Co., Ga., census as Robert Carooth (name was misspelled). I've also found our name recorded as Carouth, Caruth, and Corruth in census and marriage records.

Robert Carruth settled last in Madison Co., Ga., where he died in 1815. Robert's son, Adam Carruth (my 4th g. grandfather) possibly ran a mill called Carruth Mill in Madison Co., Ga., where he died in 1840. Adam's son, James Elbert Carruth (Sr.), was my 3rd great grandfather and died in 1850 at or near Ft. Lamar in Madison Co., Ga., before the census was taken that year.

The family group that includes James Elbert Carruth, his wife Harriet Nance (Andrew) Carruth, and their seven sons is of particular interest to me. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on this family group. This family group spelled their last name as Carouth on the 1850 Elbert Co., Ga., census and Carrouth on the 1860 Elbert Co., Ga., census. My Carruth family line has spelled our last name as Carrouth since this time period.

I've posted some messages at the GenForum and RootsWeb message boards (see links below) showing where to obtain the books Carruth Family, Carruth Story, and From Whence Ye Came. I've also included a report for you to view my family line that includes those names I listed above (Descendants of James Carruth).

There is a link included below to my RootsWeb Carruth Family web page that includes information Carruth family researchers may be interested in.

Best Wishes to all and good luck in your genealogy research.
