Notes for James Thompson Ames: Educated in the common school. Lived a while in Gloucester, MA and returned to Gilmanton, NH in early life to mercantile pursuits in West Alton, NH. Owned Diamond Island in 1824. Benjamin Thurston, his partner sold the island in 1835 to Nathanial Folsom who, in turn, sold it to the Winnepissogee Lake Steamboat Co. in 1865.
