Generation No. 4

      17. Oliver4 Carpenter (Abiah3, William2, William1, RobertA, WillamB, RobertC, RichardD, WilliamE, John the youngerF, John the ElderG, RichardH, JohnI Carpenter, MauriceJ, JeanK) was born 1675 in Pawtuxet, Providence, RI, and died Bef. Notes for Oliver Carpenter:
[rehobtothomas.ftw]

!Number 54 in the Carpenter memorial. Page 58. Family on page 75+.

!19 children listed in the above. AF has 22 children listed, including 3
children not in the CM. (Phebe b. 1714, Joshua b. 1716 and Timothy b. 1723)
These children belong to Oliver's son, Oliver b. 1795. This Oliver's children
born from 1701 to 1725 with only one spouse in records. See below.
Oliver Sr., may have been married twice, but there is no record of this.

!IF: IF this was so (2 wives) a possible gap occurs in 1710 in children and
a breakdown of twins being born. IF children naming sequence was followed
in this family the first wife would have been named Meribah or Mercy
for a nickname. However, according to science, a healthy human female is
quite capable of having 15 births in her reproductive years. That some of
them were twins is remarkable, but not unknown.

!SEE: The Carpenter Family and Related Family Historical Journal, Winter 1994,
Vol.5 Number 7 on page 414, lists only 13 known and one other child, Nathaniel.
as a possible child. Other children names not known.

!He owned real estate in several townships as appears in his will. He deeded
to his brother Joseph for love, March 18, 1705, six acres of land at Pawtuxet
which was his father's, Abiah Carpenter, deceased.
On 27 Jul 1724, he deeded land to his son, Christopher of East Greenwich.
On 23 Nov 1724 he deeded land to his son, John of Warwick, 130 acres in East
Greenwich.
On 4 Oct. 1727 he was administrator to the estate of his son, Oliver,
of East Greenwich. His son Oliver probably died after his
father's will was made and before his father died.

!WILL: Abstract of the will of Oliver Carpenter Sr., wife Sarah. Will
proven 20 Nov. 1727 in Kingstown, East Greenwich, RI.
His wife Sarah was executrix.
His friend Jeremiah Gould, overseer.
For details of who got what see page 58.

!MISC: Oliver mentions 9 children in his will in 1727, one of which was Oliver
who died after the will was made but before probate. Additional children who
got their estate prior to the will being made was Christopher (in 1724 - see
above) and John (in 1724). Two other children (Nathaniel and Jeremiah) are
confirmed alive after 1727 (They probably received their estate - no record
though). <9 + 2 + 2 = 13> The rest of the children (8 total) probably died
prior to 1727 and their father's will being made.

!SEE: Austin's Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island Families, Pages 35-36.

!Number 203 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 75.
Family on page 130 (#99). Number 718 on page 132 is incorrect.

!CM has a child born in 1703 listed to him. Others in the 1712/1716 range.
AF has birth abt 1721, but this could be his son.
Father born in 1675. So birth date of 1692 to 1695 more likely. Birth about
1695 would make him born about the same time as Oliver. Both he and Oliver
received 10 pounds in their father's will indicating they were well
established. Possible twin to Oliver.

!In the CM are two children, Mary (XII) and Meribah (XIV) which are duplicated
with the same birth dates. Possible duplication, however naming other children
after the death of an earlier child was not uncommon then.

84 iv.   Christopher Carpenter, born Abt. 1718 in North Kingston, Washington, RI; died Aft. 1737 in ,,MD.
  Notes for Christopher Carpenter:

!BOOK- GENEALOGY: Amos B. Carpenter, A GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF THE REHOBOTH
BRANCH OF THE CARPENTER FAMILY IN AMERICA. Also known as the CARPENTER

they went to Maryland. A blacksmith. Christopher built the first house on the
Carpenter Farm in West Greenwich, RI which still remains in the family (1898).

!Birth date of 1718 does not fit facts of him having a child in 1715. 1696
seems a better birth date. This matches with wife and children age ratios.
