"It is evident that Abiah Carpenter (#21) had a son Abiah (#58), who lived
and became a citizen of RI. His wife was Prudence.
His family (#31), which is dropped for the reason that the meagre records we
have been able to obtain of the early records of the families of Pawtuxet does
not make it clear the names set to Abiah's (#58) children.
It is not impossible but that some of the names set to Abiah (#21), ought to be
set to Abiah (#58) his son. The record as made out and given under (family)
No. 31, interfered somewhat with the names of other families, therefore it was
thought best to drop the whole family and leave the record of this family for a
future historian to fill out as additional evidence may appear." Page 77.

Samuel⁴ Carpenter (Abiah³, William², William¹, Robert^A, Willam^B, Robert^C, Richard^D, William^E, John the younger^F, John the Elder^G, Richard^H, John^I Carpenter, Maurice^J, Jean^K) was born Abt. 1663 in Pawtuxet, Providence, RI. He married Bethiah Bliss. She was born Abt. 1663, and died Aft. 1706.

"We are unable to find any record of a son Samuel on record of births and
deaths or by deeds, but it is evident that there was a Samuel, a near relative
of this family, which could not refer to the then known Samuels of Rehoboth or
RI. It would be very natural that Abiah would name a son after his brother
Samuel with whom he had been so intimately connected in early life in
business matters. We think it is warranted to assume that he had a son named
Samuel, who was the father of at least 5 children, who could not at that time
have belonged to any known Carpenter family of Providence or Rehoboth. He was
probably first or second son, born about 1670 (most likely abt 1663), a
resident of Providence and admitted a freeman there." page 59.

A correction on page 833 indicates Samuel married Bethiah Bliss on 15 April
1695. But other records indicate she was married to Daniel Carpenter this same
date. See below. Is it possible that there was two Bethiah's?
