Joseph Carpenter,By inheritance and purchase he owned a large intrest in Red Springs and Oak Neck ,which property he sold in 1753, and in company with his brother in law John Latting, his son John Cavery and Benjamin Stanton,purchased , through Lewis Morris, from Euphemia Norris of Bucks, England a very large tract of land in Ulster County (NY) (near Newburg) , which they settled naming it "Lattingtown " after their Long Island ,NY home. Joseph died there in 1766;his widow in 1790. On the farm of Joseph Carpenter, in a part of a burial spot, there is to be seen the following memeorial stone :
