with good source documentation and has a very good index of names.

This book is the record of Jonathan Carpenter of Rutherford , North
Carolina and His Descendants.
See Page 6.  William (b. abt 1730) had a son named Jonathan (b. abt 1755) who
had the following children:
1) Harbert Carpenter (m. Nancy Hurst - 9 children).
2) Mary Carpenter (m. Andrew Eaves - 5 children).
3) Amelia Carpenter (m. George doggett - 4 children).
4) Kinchen Carpenter (m. Anna Baber - 7 children).
5) Willie Carpenter (Female - probably died young).
6) Fanny Carpenter (m. George McDaniel - 2 children).
7) Sally Carpenter (m. Atkins - at least 1 child).
8) Daughter Carpenter (m. William Sutton - unknown amount of children).

Current speculation is that Jonathan Carpenter (b. abt 1755) was the son of William 
Carpenter later of  Westmoreland county, VA, grandson of Nathaniel b. in England and 
later of King & Queen county, VA.
