Example of a Green Baton on the Carpenter Arms
Rev. Richard Carpenter-2781 was a Catholic priest. His oldest son Robert was to receive his arms with a "bend sinister vert." This may have been translated wrong. Why? Because a "bendlet sinister, vert." or a "baton sinister" is a more appropiate mark of bastardry. The difference is that the "bend" goes from shield to shield. The bendlet or baton is narrower and does not extend from edge to edge. This Coat of Arms was drawn by Faye Charpentier-Ford. The green (vert.) baton was added by me.
