Notes for Laura Bella Joplin:
1930-
Aunt Laura and Elmer own the house where Laura, and her hafe-brother and his wife Dollie lived, and died.
Aunt Laura sold James her bother the lot where his house is next door to hers.
They had all live in Liberty Missouri on the Tallman farm after they left Pettis County . They all came to Kansas City, Kansas after they left Liberty, Mo. Where they moved, to make new home. Where they lived, over 50years. Sometimes we think them poor our you sure, we are not.

The road to Aunt Laura house was lined with trees, and few houses on a dirt road....... And you better hope It had not rain It got so mudie that you had to walk to her house. Looked just like old photographs of pioneers homes, there was not much done to improve this place in the next 60 years which modern people, accustomed to It was a place lost in time. no plumbing and, just as amazing, no hurry. Herman Joplin son of James and Addie Joplin live in this house up to the day Lawrence his brother place him in a nurseing home late 1980s . \\\

In the late '40s and early '50s As a result, I have memories of a way of life that most of my generation only read about. It's a bit as thought I had 30 to 40 years added to my life ----- only in reverse. It wasn't all idyllic. In winter, the only heat came from a coal stove,,,,,,,,,,, not enough to warm the whole house. Water was take from the spring down the hill to the house in a pale and I have seen ice in the pale in the winter, as a kid. There was a long- handled metal ladle to drink out of. And it hung by the pale in the kitchen. Do you remember when we all drank from the same ladle.? They also made lots of their clothes, beautiful quilts and impossibly soft feather - bed mattresses. \\

Everyone went to bed early. A trip to the outhouse on a cold, dark night was worse than no fun. But In the summer, we had so much fun In the wood's on our way to her house. The creek below her house we played to cool are selfs, you see we had no "pools" It took a kind of second - hand pride in the independence of my relatives. Most Americans once live that way. We Traded it in for fast food, VCRs and rush hour traffic. Was it worth It ? I have my doubts.
