As a child I remember looking over an old mimeographed manuscript of the history of our Nash ancestors that was put together by a great-uncle. That book shared with me not just dates and facts, but it impressed upon me the importance of recording and preserving the information about the lives of those who came and went before us. Through the stories and letters in this brief history, I could "see" my great grandparents. I could imagine their grief as one after another child became ill and died. Through their tales I could better understand what life must have been like one hundred or two hundred years ago.

The amazing thing is that through this shared history, and later through my own research of the many "branches" of my family tree, I have developed a greater respect for the people who lived before. People I owe my life to. They are no longer names and dates on a page, they have come "alive" in my mind, and in my heart.

Some of the main "branches" of my family tree:

Annett
August
Bontrager
Brown
Camp
Carlson
Donaldson
Farnum
Hartson / Hartshorn
Hellenbolt / Helmboldt
Jordan
Nash
Porter
Soden
Tulett / Tullett
Vanzant / Van Zandt / Van Santen
Williams
Zane
