My sister and I are researching our Czech roots. All of our great grandparents were born in either Bohemia or Moravia which were a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time. They are now parts of the Czech Republic. Here are their names and a brief description of each family:
FRUS-CERNY -- Frank Frus b. 1835 in Brezinka near Bela pod. Bezdezem and Anna (Cerny) Frus b. abt. 1837 in Krasnavice, both in Bohemia. They emigrated in 1867 first to Iowa City, IA, then in 1880 settled permanently in Adams County, IA near the town of Williamson along with several other Bohemian families. They both died in 1911. Their children were Joseph, Marie (Blazek), Karel, John, James and our grandfather, Frank J. who was b. in 1871 near Iowa City and d. in 1947 in Prescott IA.
KALLA-CIPEK - Anton Kalla b. 1836 in Vir, Moravia and Frantiska (Cipek) Kalla b. 1841 in Rozsec, n. Kunstatem, Moravia. They emigrated in 1883 and settled permanently in Omaha, NE. Anton d. in 1912 and Frantiska (Fanny) d. in 1917. Their children were Antonie (HofMann), Marie (Cipra), Emily (Eggen), Julia (Kessler), Vincie (Elmiger), Joseph and our grandmother Fanny who was born abt. 1862, m. 1893 to Frank J. Frus, and d. 1922 in Williamson, IA.
PYCHA-VONDRA - Frantisek Pycha b. 1845 in Vlkanci, Bohemia and Anna (Vondra) Pycha b. abt. 1847 in Zvestovice, Bohemia. They emigrated in 1874 and settled permanently in Omaha, NE. Frantisek d. in 1907 and Anna d. in 1908. Their children were Frances (Moravec), Marie (Hofmann), Charles, Edward and our grandfather Frank J. who was b. 1878 in Omaha, NE and d. 1944 in Omaha, NE.
MORAVEC-JELINEK - Frantisek Moravec b. 1850 in Leskovice, Habry, Bohemia and Anna (Jelinek) Moravec b. abt. 1856 in Vilimove, Habry, Bohemia. They emigrated in 1887 to PA for a year or two, then settled permanently in Omaha, NE. Frantisek d. in 1920 and Anna d. in 1925. Their children were Vaclav, Marie (Babka), Frances (Reed), Louis and our grandmother Karolina who was b. 1880, m. 1900 to Frank J. Pycha, and d. 1955 in Omaha, NE.
