Frances Norris (b. Abt. 1820, d. Aft. Jun 1880)

Frances Norris (daughter of Reuben Norris and Catherine Morris)^{1611, 1612, 1613} was born Abt. 1820 in Grainger County, Tennessee^{1614, 1615, 1616}, and died Aft. Jun 1880 in Grainger County, Tennessee. She married Daniel J. Cardwell on 21 Feb 1839 in Grainger County, Tennessee¹⁶¹⁷, son of Unknown and Unknown.

The parents of Frances "Fanny" Norris remain a mystery after twenty years of research. By axamination of the the 1830 census records of Grainger County, Tennessee the potential parents of Frances can be narrowed down to three couples.

1. Reuben Norris - b. ca 1776 in Virginia. He is listed in the 1830 census of Grainger County, TN (2020001-020001 pg. 355). That included two girls born between 1820-1825, which match the approximate birht year of Frances Norris (ca 1820). In the 1840 census of Grainger County, TN, Rueben is listed very near Daniel J. Cardwell and Frances Norris (0020001-010101 pg 133). He is also listed in the 1850 census of Grainger County, TN very near Daniel J. Cardwell and Frances Norris Cardwell. It is based on this information that he is assumed to be the father of Frances Norris. Grainger County, Tn marriage records contain numerous Norris marriages, but I've yet to find one for Reuben Norris. In neighboring Knox County, Tennessee there is a record of marriage between Reuben Norris and Catherine Morris on 25 May 1813. This is a strong possibility considering that a "Caty Norris" is listed with Reuben in the 1850 Grainger County, TN census.

2. William Norris - b. 1770-1780. He is listed in the 1830 census of Grainger County, TN (00010001-0311101 pg. 355). He has three daughters that fit the approximate birth time of Frances Norris (ca 1820).

3. William Norris - b. 1790-1800. He listed in the 1830 census of Grainger County, TN (101001-220001 pg. 355) He also has two daughters that fit the apporximate birth year of Frances Norris (ca 1820).

Last known record of Frances Norris is the 1880 Census of Grainger County, Tennessee. As of July 2006, I've yet to be able to determine her parents.
