Notes for James Calvin Cardwell: __________________________________________________________________________________
James Calvin Cardwell was born about 1845 in Grainger County, Tennessee. He married Elizabeth J. “Lizzie” Dyer on January 19, 1865 in Union County, Tennessee. Elizabeth J. Dyer was born on January 1, 1850 in Grainger County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of James Dyer, Jr. and Mary Morgan. James Calvin Cardwell might be living in District 4 of Knox County, Tennessee, along with his brother Alfred, according to a Male Voter List in 1891. He apparently died sometime after the birth of Frances “Fannie” Cardwell in 1892. The exact date is not known. Elizabeth Jane Dyer Cardwell is living with her daughter, Emily Cardwell Chesney, in the 1930 Census of Union County, Tennessee. James “Cal” Calvin Cardwell died sometime after 1890. The exact date is not known.
I have not been able to locate James Calvin Cardwell and family in the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census records. By 1900, several of his children are married and are living in Union County, Tennessee or Grainger County, Tennessee. The area that they lived is close to the broder of Union and Grainger Counties in a community named "Luttrell". It was formerly known as Cedar Ford. Powder Springs Gap is less than two miles from Luttrell and is in Grainger County, Tennessee. This region is in the shadow of Clinch Mountain.
I know bascially nothing of James Calvin Cardwell. The records that are listed as sources are all the information that I've been able to discover about him. No living family members have any memories of James Calvin 'Cal" Cardwell. If you happen to have any information concerning him please contact me.

"In 1896, twenty-four members of Cedar Ford Baptist Church convened and organized Warwick's Chapel Baptist Church. This list was compiled by Mrs. Robert L. (Ruby) Donahue were, [list of 22 persons], Calvin Cardwell and Elizabeth Cardwell."
NOTE: Warwick's Chapel Baptist Church was organized in June of 1869. The source in this book might be wrong with the date. The church records lists the founding members. among them are Daniel and Fannie [Frances Norris] Cardwell as coming from the Powder Springs Gap Church. Also listed is Calvin Cardwell from Cedar Ford Baptist Church. Regardless, until other evidence comes to light, James Calvin Cardwell will be listed as living until 1896. __________________________________________________________________________________
