Reuben Norris - b. ca 1776 in Virginia. He is listed in the 1830 census of Grainger County, TN (2020001-020001 pg. 355). That included two girls born between 1820-1825, which match the approximate birht year of Frances Norris (ca 1820). In the 1840 census of Grainger County, TN, Rueben is listed very near Daniel J. Cardwell and Frances Norris (0020001-010101 pg 133). He is also listed in the 1850 census of Grainger County, TN very near Daniel J. Cardwell and Frances Norris Cardwell. It is based on this information that he is assumed to be the father of Frances Norris. Grainger County, Tn marriage records contain numerous Norris marriages, but I've yet to find one for Reuben Norris. In neighboring Knox County, Tennessee there is a record of marriage between Reuben Norris and Catherine Morris on 25 May 1813. This is a strong possibility considering that a "Caty Norris" is listed with Reuben in the 1850 Grainger County, TN census.
The 1830 census of Grainger County, Tennessee lists Reuben Norris' being born between 1780-1790. The 1840 census of Grainger County, Tennessee lists him as being born between 1790-1800. The 1850 census of Grainger County, Tennessee lists him as being born in 1776. These records all appear to indicate one individual, but it is apparent that the census taker listed his age wrong, which is fairly common.
Reuben Norris might be the son of William Norris. William Norris served in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina and settled in Grainger County, Tennessee. He filed for a pension and is listed on the Veteran Roll of 1835 in Grainger County, Tennessee as being 82 years of age [born ca 1753]. More research is needed on this line.
