I am researching the family of John Herbert "Jack" Cassidy, a lumberjack born in Canada who migrated south to Louisiana during the days of The Great Southern Lumber Company. Jack, my great grandfather, began his career as a lumberjack. He worked his way up to Superintendent of a logging camp by the age of 16. He eventually became the General Manager of The Great Southern Lumber Company, which at the time was the world's largest saw mill and was located in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Jack rose to the top of his field with an outstanding work ethic and a second grade education. |
