Executor: Abraham Hill. Witnesses: Stephen Jackson, Sarah Hill. Clerk of the Court: Benj'n Wynns. Unknown if any connection to my Sarah Lane. From WFT Vol. 25 #1384, Sarah Lane, daughter of Christian Lane, married Abraham Hill Sr. of Edgecombe County who died after 1770.

From GenForum, post dated 04 Mar 1999 from <jriccio1@compuserve.com>: "...Joseph Lane b 1665 Jamestown, VA d ca 1752/58 Edgecombe Co., NC. Referred to as Col. & High Sheriff in NC. He married Jillian/Jelion Alderson. Said to have had Mary, who m. Mathew Howell and d 1719; Thomas; and Joseph, b 1710 d 1774/76, m. Patience McKinne." This was a response to this post by Frank Trowbridge: "Joseph Lane, Sr. m. Jillian or Jullian (mnu) in about 1694. Joseph and Thomas Jarrell, Jr. formed a partnership in 1714 in Surry Co. They had 1400 acres between them. Thomas Jarrell had a sister named Jillian and it is suspected that this Jillian was Joseph Lane's wife who was also the widow of Thomas Futrell (d. 1693) . They had at least two children, Joseph, Jr and Martha. Martha m. Mathew Howell and was widowed in 1720 with two small children and pregnant with the third child. Joseph and wife Jillian moved to Bertie Co., NC around 1720 and are later found in Northampton Co., NC records. Does anyone know the names of their other children, if any. In addition to Joseph, Jr. there were Benjamin, John, Thomas and William Lane whose names all appear in Northampton Co. Deeds in the period, 1741-1759. How are all these Lanes related?"
In the Dallas Library, there are several articles about the LANE families of NC and GA. Ancestry.com listed the sources as: Jesse Lane of NC & GA in The Carolina Genealogist, Issue 41, Winter 1981; Patience Mckinne-Joseph Lane Desc., North Carolina found in Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine Vol. 3 Issue 3 Jan. 1922; Lane Family of NC in the Guilford Genealogist Vol. 13 Issue 1 Fall 1985.
Could there be a relationship between my Lanes and those of the family of Joseph Lane, Jr. and Patience McKinne (dau. of Col. Barnabas McKinne,Sr. & Mary Exum)? Joseph Lane, Jr.'s parents according to an entry in Ancestry.com were Joseph & Julion (Julian) Lane. Joseph & Patience's son James married Lydia Speight. Jacob Brake, father of William Brake who married Sarah LANE (dau. of James and Sarah Lane of Edgecombe Co., NC), had another son named Benjamin Brake. Benjamin and Priscilla UNKNOWN Brake named one of their sons Exum/Axum Brake (b. 1785 NC). William Brake, brother to this Benjamin, and uncle of Exum Brake, is said to have died c1820 in Hancock Co., GA.      William and Sarah Lane Brake also named one of their children Exum Brake. One Exum Brake did live in Hancock Co., GA (1840 census).
Another possibility is Thomas LANE of VA and his son Thomas Lane, Jr. According to Ancestry.com files, Thomas Lane, Jr. had children named Sallie, Ethelred, and Thomas Lane. Supposedly, this line comes from another Thomas Lane (b. 1660 in Surry, Surry, VA., d. 1740 in Bertie, Bertie, N.C., buried in 1740 in Bertie, Bertie, N.C.) and his wife Jane Flood (daughter of John FLOOD). Legacies were paid to John Hall, Sarah Lane, and Elizabeth Faircloth. Paid legacy to Sarah Lane received from Edward Arnold, May Ct. 1794. Division of negroes among the claimants, namely, Abraham Belcher and Mary, his wife; Sumner Holland, and Zilpha, his wife; Amos Forehand and Marium, his wife; Solomon Forehand, assignee to James Lane; and William Brake and Sarah, his wife, Oct.14, 1795, Feb Ct. 1797.".......from <tracithompson@hotmail.com>
