James Edmund Cochran (pictured on the right), son of John COCHRAN & Nancy Elizabeth STANFORD. He served in WWI, in Co. D, 5th Reg of Engineers, first as private, then corporal, then sergeant. He saw battle in France. He is listed in "A War History of Company D 5th Regiment of Engineers" published April 1st, 1919 at Camp A. A. Humphreys, PA. During the war, he was gassed in France with something that impaired his lungs from then on. While in the Army (south Texas), he was a part of a US expedition into Mexico chasing Pancho Villa. - Cochran Homestead, New Boston, NH (14 KB)
This is a side view of the old Cochran homestead in New Boston, NH. It was struck by lightening and burned about 1920. It was occupied continuously by Cochrans, John Cochran, being the last. He built a new house on the old site - it was still standing in 1936. In this old house was held the first town meeting of that section of Hillsborough county. The house had an immense kitchen with a great fireplace and built-in oven.
