* The Fernand Joseph Casbergue family of New Orleans, LA*

Updated March 20, 2009

This Casbergue family tree is a work in progress. I am new to this process and look forward to making contact with others in the family. The earliest arrival of persons with the name Casbergue that I have found so far is in 1721. The book, "The Settlement of the German Coast of Louisiana and The Creoles of German Descent" by J. Hanno Deiler, Genealogical Pub. Co,Baltimore, MD,(found in The Williams Research Ctr., 410 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA) lists Ernst Katzenberger & wife as founders; the Casbergues were among those aboard one of thh 3 "pest ships", (the plaque?), arriving from Germany. Twelve other variations of the spellings of the name were listed so there are challenges in tracing the US history of the family. My direct family knowledge begins with Fernand Joseph Casbergue who was born about 1861 in New Orleans, Louisiana, married to Alice Louise Magner. His father was reported to be among 3 brothers who imigrated from France/Alsace Lorraine to New Orleans.

I hope to learn more about the earlier European origins of the family and will endeavor to keep at least a semblance of order in my listings and postings. Assistance is solicited among those with similar interests. I will be happy to exchange my findings with others in either the families of Casbergue or John Seth Chase, Cowley County, Kansas, my maternal ancestor who descended from Samuel Chase, signer of the Declaration of Independence & was on the first US Supreme Court.
