Welcome to our Cassell and Lawton family FTM homepage. We have about 42,000 family members on our tree as of October 2001. We believe our Cassell (also spelled Cassel and Cossel) family came from Hesse-Kassel in the late 1600s (or early 1700s) to (eventually) Washington County, Virginia. From there they went to Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, California, etc. Names of my husband's ancestors also include Wallace (Ireland to PA to CA), Twohig, Riter, Beckley, Reed, Brothers, Beck, etc. My Lawton ancestors start with Richard Lawton b. 1499 in Cranfield, Bedford, England. His descendant, Thomas Lawton came with his brother, George to Rhode Island in 1638. My Lawtons went from R.I. to Ohio to Illinois to Oklahoma to New Mexico to California. Oct. 22, 1931, dau. of John Ford & Catherine Lewis, m. Dec. 3, 1868 to Peter B. Gabbard, b. July 3, 1836, d. August 13, 1921, son of John G. Gabbard and Margaret Combs. Standing in the background is Jemima's brother, Elihu Ford and Peter's brother.
