| The Village of Piedimonte d'Alife lies in the province of Caserta in South West Italy, nineteen miles form Naples, in the middle of the region of Campania. It was here our first known family member, Petro Cassella and his wife, Rachel, whose maiden name may have been Contenti, gave birth to Giuseppe. His first born son, Luigi, (my great grandfather, b.1874) came to the United States in 1897. Close behind came Luigi's father and his younger siblings, Rudolfo, Claudina, Marcello, Geneva, Genoeffa and Corina. I have reason to believe other of Petro's children and grandchildren were part of the over 4.5 million Italians who migrated between 1880 and 1930. However, I haven't had much luck turning up those other Cassellas. I would love to exchange information with others whose lines carry back to Piedimonte d'Alife and the Cassella surname. |
