Based on a late source, one family tradition states Margaret Caudill had three illigitimate children. One, Jesse Caudill, is said to be the son of Jeff Polle and that the father of James W. was David Vanover. In 1870, Margaret was living in her parents' household, age16. In 1880, she and her sons, Jesse and John, are in the household of her brother-in-law, Enoch Collins. The 1900 census shows Margaret and her sons John A. and James W. in the household of her uncle, Charles Fitzpatrick. Nancy Fitzpatrick had died prior to this census. It also gives Margaret's last name as Stone, and states she is a widow. Margaret , though she was born ca. 1853 per an earlier census, in the 1900census she is listed as being born July 1851.
