The following obituary is from The Mountain Eagle newspaper dated 2/1/23, page 1, column 6:

"Mother Called"

In her seventy-seventh year, surrounded by six of her eight grown children and other friends, Mrs. Ludemia Webb, for nineteen years the widow of Jason L. Webb, at the old home place at Sergent, passed from earth to the home toward which her hopes had been fixed for many years. Never so very strong physically the little vitality she possessed, incident to age, failed to rally as it had before, and lifting her eyes to God she went to her blessed home. The glory belongs to God.
Mother was the daughter of the late Robert S. Hubbard, who in his day was one of the leading ministers of the old Baptist Church. She was reared to womanhood in Virginia and became the wife of father in the latter part of the awful days of the Rebellion. If we do say it, no better blood than hers on either side flowed in the arteries of any Virginian. From the first day of her married life to the last day of her earthly career she faced the battles of time like the heroine that she was and went away loved and honored - a true mother in Israel.
Mother was blessed with nine children all of whom, except one called in infancy, are still alive. They all reside in this county except Sam T., who lives at Waynesburg, and Robert S., living at Los Angeles, Calif. She passed from earth at the home of her son, Burdine, residing at the old homestead.
On Sunday memorial services were conducted at the old home and continued at Webb cemetery at Mayking by Elds. Robt. Blair, Andy M. Tate, Marion Blair and Charlie Webb. There was a demonstration of Christian love and spirit everywhere. She had been a faithful member of the old Thornton Baptist Church for thirty-five years.
The above is enough and maybe more than mother would like said. She sang her own praises and needs not the poor words of her son to add to them. All the honor is God's. -N. M. W.

She married Simpson Adams Abt. 1845 in Letcher County, KY, son of William Adams and Mary Adams. The following obituary is from The Mountain Eagle newspaper dated 12/1/38, page 1, column 7:

"Jason Adams Killed By Train At Mayking"

The word came this evening before press time that Jason Adams, 74, a son of the late Simpson and Sallie Webb Adams had in the last half hour been run over and killed by a train. Going to the place of the accident we found the body horribly cut and mangled. Death resulted suddenly. The deceased was walking down the way about 350 yards below the railway crossing and near the track when an L&N engine tender and caboose came through the cut. As the train approached him instead of moving further away from the track the engineer says he turned suddenly and walked on to the track. He was run over and left in the middle of the track. One or both legs were crushed, one hand completely cut off and besides mangled in many other indiscribable ways.
The deceased leaves two brothers, Bill and Eld. Simpson Adams, besides a great number of nephews and nieces. Owing to the fact that he was a member of the old Adams and Webb families his relatives are numberless being scattered all over Letcher and other counties.
He was never married. He was strictly religious, but never connected himself with any church that we recall. The Burke Funeral Home brought the body to the Home here where preparations were made for interment. Funeral services, it is presumed will be conducted at the Mayking cemetery tomorrow where burial will take place. We grieve with the great host of relatives and friends and extend sympathies.
