Notes for G
EORGE W. RUST:
1810 census of Washington D. C., shows George Rust, 18 years of age, as a wagon maker.

1850 Census, Adams County, Illinois, Keene Twp, October 3, 1850, Dwelling 44, Family 49. According to other documentation, these ages are mostly wrong.
George Rust, 47, Farmer, real estate $1500, born Maryland
Mary, 53, born NJ
Charles, 18, born Ohio
Benjamin, 24, born Kentucky (this is Mary' son by Farner)
Samuel, 13, born Illinois
Josephine McFarland, female, 6, born Illinois
(So far, we've not figured out who this Josephine McFarland is - we're sure she's related in some way)

Some reports say George was born in Germany, while others say he was
born in Maryland. He served in the War of 1812 from Washington, D.C., then moved to Ohio,
then to Illinois.

Publication 1988 by Family Line Publications, of Genealogy/Local History/Early Maps of Maryland, Delaware, Southern Pennsylvania and Washington D. C., page 63 of Christenings in St. Pauls's Parish shows George Rust son of Charles and Mary Rust, born January 29, 1792 and baptized October 29, 1792. This document agrees with the exact birthdate in the George Rust family Bible.

Computer printout from Maryland shows George Rust son of Charles and Mary Rust, christening October 19, 1792 in Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland at Saint Paul Episcopal Church.

First Marriage Document Quote:
"Certificate of Issuance of Marriage License from the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, does hereby certify that the records of said Court show that a marriage license was issued to George Rust and Ann Wade on the 4th day of August, 1812." The document also stated that at that time, ministers were not required to make their returns of marriages performed.

Marriage Licenses of Washington, D. C. 1811 - 1830, Family Line Publications, Silver Spring, Maryland publication 1988 also shows George Rust and Ann Wade married August 4, page 123.

Second Marriage Document Quote:
"The State of Ohio, Clermont County. This will certify that George Rust and Mary Farner (widow) was lawfully married on the 16th day of October 1831. Given under my hand this 15th day of December 1831, Samuel Will J.P." (This document also agrees with the Rust Family Bible, Marriage October 16, 1831 of Mary McChesney Farner Rust). Batavia Township, Clermont County, Ohio.

In 1835 George and Mary came from Clermont County, Ohio to Adams County, Illinois, where they settled in Keene Township and farmed.

Third Marriage very questionable:
Although the 3rd marriage to a Mrs William Forum was stated in Quincy and Adams County, Illinois publication, page 314, we can find no record that this marriage ever took place, nor did she claim his pension.

War of 1812 Survivors Pension No. 8350 showed: paid December 4, 1873 and George's death March 3, 1874. Survivors Pension Claim No. 7522. Warrant No. 28.882-120-55. On the Declaration of Pension for George also appeared the signature of his son Charles W. Rust as witness.
George served in the War of 1812 as a private and was engaged as a Blacksmith in the Ordinance Department under Captains Perry and Moore and Col. Brent D. C. Militia in Washington D. C. At age 21, he served a total of 78 days; May 20, 1813 until June 15, 1813 and again from August 19, 1814 until October 8, 1814.

The 1870 Adams County census, Keene Twp, dwelling 231, family 236 shows James Akins, 35, head of houshold with wife Josephine (this is actually Josephine McFarland who married James Akins). Even though it shows James Akins as head of household, it shows George Rust, 76, (the age is wrong) born Maryland, Real Estate $9,600.

This document agrees with the exact birthdate in the George Rust family Bible (This one belongs to Marthabelle, but she sent a copy to Jeani).

1860 census, Mendon Twp, Adams County, Illinois:
George W. Rust, 42, Farmer, 5000, 1000, born DC

Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Akins

One forth mile west of the junction north of Quinlan
was Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Akins' homestead. They came to
Woodward County from Illinois in 1901. They had their
two granddaughters, Mae and Marie Brown, who had lost
their mother a year earlier. Their father was Frank H.
Brown of Woodward.

Dr. Akins served as a pioneer doctor in the horse and
buggy days, serving the people in a vast area
including Quinlan, Belva, Curtis, Cedardale and
Driscoll.

The Akins later had a nice two story house built in
Quinlan. The granddaughters received their education
in Quinlan, Mae being one of the six students in the
first freshman class in Quinan's new wooden structure
building built in 1909. Mae and Marie both worked for
Eli Chastell at the switchboard when Quinlan got its
telephone service.

Dr. Akins died in 1911 at the age of 73, and Mrs.
Akins continuted to live there until her death in 1918
at the age of 74. They are buried side by side in
Union Cemetery south of Quinlan.

Notes for M
ARY MCCHESNEY:
Mary McChesney (nee Farner) was the widow of Benjamin Farner. FTM would not let me add (nee Farner) after her name as wife of George Rust. Neither would it let me make her name Farner without changing her name to Farner as wife of Benjamin Farner. So she is listed as McChesney on both marriages.

Sources:
McChesney Bible in hands of Jeani Gray's mother. Books by K. Schultz. Will of Mary's father William.
On 1900 censu for Adair County, Missouri, Samuel listed his mother's birth place as New Jersey.
