| CAWEIN NAME HISTORY The surname Cawein originated in Germany sometime in the fourteenth century and may have come from the German word for money-changer or foreign merchant "ka(u)werzen". The name may also have referred to a person who came from the city of Cahors located in southern France which was then known as the seat of money-changers. The profession of money-changer was called Kawerschen and was mentioned in 1324 for the first time. In Germany, however, the surname Cawein is only found in small numbers. All Cawein information has been gathered during the 12 years of my Cawein research. Feel free to copy any information listed as my intent is to allow anyone interested in the Cawein ancestry to utilize all the data I have collected.
