Find Family

Greetings! Welcome!

Here's my connection: Krista of Carl Franklin Cessna of Wilbur Lamont Cessna of John Thomas Cessna of Peter Morgart Cessna of William and Rachel Morgart Cessna of John and Mary McCauslin Cessna of Major John and Sarah Rose Cesna of John Cesna.
I'm researching CESSNA, TWIGG, O'NEAL, GARLAND, MORGAN, MORGART, STALLINGS, CHANEY, STUCKEY, EYLER and associated families. These people settled primarily in Bedford County, Pennyslvania and Allegany County, Maryland. I have the most information on the Cessna Family. Here are a couple tidbits:

1. To obtain a photocopy of Major John Cessna's signature. See microfilm #3485: Charters, Proprietary & Indian Deeds and Constitutions. 1681-1873. Item #15: 1776 Constitution (19 sheets, 16 1/2"x12 1/2") This Microfilm is located at the Pennsylvania Archives Building, Harrisburg, PA. John signed with the Bedford Group. Benjamin Franklin was the "president" of the group. The last two pages contain the signatures.

2. The Priscilla Challenge:
Priscilla Foulke is not the mother of Major John. The Foulke family lists her birthday as c. 1724 which is two years before Major John's. Her death date is listed as before 1786 in North Carolina.

It is true that Priscilla is named on John's will and the Foulke signers were her parents. Susannah Ward who also signed the will is Priscilla's sister.

After Priscilla's husband John died in Pennsylvania, she second married Abraham Elliott. The couple moved to Orange County, North Carolina. They were Quakers and took children: John, Stephen and Ruth Sisney along to NC.

Source: 1989 Foulke Family Chart sent from North Carolina to the York County Historical Society. I obtained the information in Oct 1997 and tried to contact the author but she had already moved and my correspondence was returned unopened.

3. CESSNA GAP is just west of Shippensburg, PA. John Cessna's place was the last "stop" before pioneers braved the mountains to the west.

4. To obtain you own copy of Volume I or II of the HOUSE OF CESSNA written by Howard Cessna, contact Higginson Book Company, 14 Derby Square, PO box 778, Salem, Massachusetts 01970 at 508-745-7170.

Volume I contains Howard Cessna's research and assumptions regarding this family from 1700 to 1903.

Volume II is cryptic. It is well worth the price but contains mostly letters from Howard's correspondents. The books can be purchased paper or hard-bound.

5. If you are interested in the CESSNA airplane, Jeffrey L. Rodengen wrote THE LEGEND OF CESSNA and copywrited it in 1998. Contact Write Stuff Enterprises, INC at 1515 Southeast 4th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316 or call 1-800-900-2665 or 954-462-6657.
