Find Family
Researching Chatham, Gates, Brian, West, Couch, Estes, and Bass families from Central, Louisiana. These families moved to Louisiana in early to mid 1800s and settled in Jackson Caldwell, and Winn Parishes. Most were farmers or preachers of Baptist and Methodist faith.
Also searching for documentation of the ancestry of John Fletcher of Simpson and Rankin Countys Mississippi. Birth date unknown, died Oct 24th 1865 in Rankin Co. Miss. First records found are from 1837 tax records. A farmer, reportedly Choctaw who remained in Miss, passing for white when the Choctaw were expelled to Oklahoma in the early 1830s. Was married around 1827 to a Sallie or Sarah Merchant who died about 1833 leaving 3 small daughters and then to Mary "Nicey" Rankin with whom he had 9 other children. Both wives were white. According to family records, his father was "Capt" James Fletcher, a Choctaw signer of the 1830 treaty, who went to Oklahoma at about the time of John's first wife's death.

Would appreciate any information into these families and am happy to share information that we have as well.
