Six Generations of Sturgeons (7/23/98)


       963. Martha Jane (Matt)6 Sturgeon (George Washington5, Jeremiah4, Jeremiah3, John2, Samuel1) was born September 13, 1851 in KY, and died March 1940. She married John Smith.

       Child of Martha Sturgeon and John Smith is:

  1806 i.   Leet7 Smith, born December 12, 1871. He married Clara.
       964. John Henry Harrison6 Sturgeon (George Washington5, Jeremiah4, Jeremiah3, John2, Samuel1) was born November 13, 1855 in KY. He married Jane (Jenny) Webster August 11, 1879 in Clark Co., Missouri.

Notes
Jane was a daughter of Vardaman Webster and a sister to Mary Ellen who married Richard Sturgeon. She was also Hohn Henry's mother's first cousin.

John Henry and Jenny Sturgeon moved to western Kansas around 1886 and built a sod house near Wakeeney in Indian Territory along the Smokey Hill river. They later moved to Weir, Kansas and built a house where Lilly and Ruby were born in 1888 and 1890. Soon they moved on to Miami, Okla. where they built another house and Nels worked in a drugstore. John Henry hauled water and sold it for a livingas much of the water around Miami was sulpher. They lived close to the Neosho River. Nellly told of "grandpa" living with them in Miami. This was not her grandpa Webster, so, unless she was referring to John Henry as "grandpa", George W. Sturgeon must have been with them at this time before 1904. In 1904, the family went by wagon to Norman, Oklahoma so that Nels, Emma, Lily and Ruby could attend school there. They later came t oEnid where he and his son Nels had a drugstore and then moved to Ames, Oklahoma and put in a drugstore there.

  1807 i.   Nellie Jane7 Sturgeon, born November 29, 1884 in Wayconda, MO; died October 1964 in Fairview, OK. She married Edgar Dorsey Wright October 17, 1911 in Ames, Kingfisher Co., OK.
  1808 ii.   Emma Sturgeon. She married Mathis.
  1809 iii.   Otho Nelson (Nels) Sturgeon.
  1810 iv.   Lilly Sturgeon, born Abt 1888 in Weir, Kansas.
  1811 v.   Ruby Sturgeon, born Abt 1890 in Weir, Kansas. She married S. O. Hawkins.
       965. Mary Elizabeth6 Sturgeon (George Washington5, Jeremiah4, Jeremiah3, John2, Samuel1) was born March 04, 1858 in KY. She married John McGinnis.

       967. William Marion6 Sturgeon (George Washington5, Jeremiah4, Jeremiah3, John2, Samuel1) was born June 02, 1862 in KY, and died May 05, 1943. He married Nancy Corbin September 23, 1886.

       968. David Foster6 Sturgeon (George Washington5, Jeremiah4, Jeremiah3, John2, Samuel1) was born August 03, 1864, and died January 03, 1937 in Keene, TX. He married Mary Frances (Fannie) Evins.

Notes
He had lived at Weir City, Kansas and near Miami, Oklahoma in the 1880's and owned land in both places. In 1928, he was living in Enid, Oklahoma. Then he moved to Loma Linda, California. he was a minister of the 7th Day Adventist Church.
