Notes for Christopher Chafin: Born probably in Goochland, later Cumberland, later Powhatan.
Joseph, Standley and Nathan (listed as sons of John, Chris's father), could possibly Chris's sons. Simon, Jordan and John are most certainly brothers, and all located in the Sandy/Tug valleys of KY/WV, as did Chris, Jr. but I cannot prove that they are this Chris's sons. The Chafins/Chalfins of (Berkeley & Monongalia) VA area may be connected with the Chalfant family. Tax: 10 Aug 1759 (Cumberland) VA - tax on 1 tithable (with John)
Land Transactions: 1753 bought 200 ac. in (Cumberland) VA from father for L8 (probably married by then). Sold same to brother Nathan 2 Apr. 1753 for L53 (Proven by brother Stanley, witness to bill of sale, in court June 1753. Therefore, Chris died April- June 1753? Not likely: Stanley was in court to administer estate of Chris on 22 Aug 1768.)
29 May 1761 (Cumberland) VA Will Book 1: Chris and Stanley witness will of Ambrose Ransone. Notes daughters Lucy, Catherine and Jane.
1767 (Cumberland) VA Will Book 1: Chris, Simon and Thomas Huccaby witness will of William Bassam. Both proved will 23 May 1768.
1767 is listed in father's will; death must have been sudden. Tradition says he was killed by a runaway slave.
