This page is dedicated to my all my children, Heather, Jerrad, Frine, Doc, Damon, and Devon and to Cydney, James and Jenna, the three greatest grandkids in the world. While genealogy is educational and fascinating, it would behoove us to remember that the bonds that bind a family are thicker than blood - Seldom do members of the same family grow up under the same roof.
I have been doing geneaological research on my family for decades. There are several related sites at the bottom of this page. I want to thank Marlyce (my lovely wife), Alvin (my Dad), Paula (My Aunt), Sheila (My favorite cousin that I've NEVER met), Patsy and Aunt Puggins and Grandma Dunkin (God rest the souls of the last two), for their help, mental stimulation, ideas and input. (And of course, my sainted mother, Arlene)!
I have traced the Maternal (Dunkin) side quite a ways. I am working on Samuel Dunkin, b. 1805 in Virginia. He married Charlotte. The 1850 Census of St. Joseph, Michigan shows Charles as a child in the home of Samuel (born circa 1805) and Charlotte Dunkin (both of Virginia). Land records place Samuel as coming from Loudoun County, Virginia. He is on the 1840 Census in Michigan, the 1830, 1820 and 1810 Censuses of Loudoun County, Virginia. I have reason to believe his father's name is Samuel as well - Samuel is the head of house in Virginia when Samuel is 5 yrs. old. Samuel - the elder - was born between 1760 and 1770. More work to do here, but I have many avenues yet to explore.
I have traced Tuckers too. Thomas Tucker, Jr. (b.ca.1712 in Maryland)is the most recent lead [NOT VERIFIED - and DISPUTED]. I know his son was in the Revolutionary War, but have not followed through on many of the leads I have yet. Gainful employment always gets in the way . . . William "Bill" Tucker has found a wealth of Maryland data which I have listed and sourced, but not verified yet. This data is challenged by Huell Clive Tucker, a source I respect VERY much. My source is the source of the data to me, i.e., if you tell me T. Tucker is on the 1790 census, I will use you as the source, NOT the census until I personally verify the census. In essence - you will be a "lead", hopefully followed up shortly with first person research. After that, the info will list the second source, i.e., the census. William S. "Bill" Tucker also relates that Thos. Tucker, Sr., b. ca. 1668 was the son of Richard Tucker. Fascinating stuff which will hopefully prove to be valid as Bill has been doing this for a long time.
More promising has been the Chastain side where published and documented researched has facilitated my work. From 1572 in France down to Pierre Chastain in Virginia and then quite a ways down. Also, from the youngest Chastain (b.1991) backwards, I have developed a wide tree which leads me to John Withrow Chastain. Here is where I believe the ancestry connects to published sources. I have found more evidence connecting William Newton Chastain to John Withrow Chastain than the 1860 Census (which was disputed). Included was electronic correspondence with a descendant of Jason Meadows Chastain. Also, I have found a nephew living with Wm. Newton, one of Jason's sons, who was clearly identified on the census. The Pierre Chastain Family Association has agreed with this and any impartial look at the handwriting will confirm it as well. Gloria Ford has a Bible that also verifies this info . . .
I was also lucky to trace the Hoyt family line (with the help of published sources) to Walter Hoyte, b. bet. 1479 & 1510 in England.
I have done some more work on the Lafferry (LaFerry, Laffery, Laferty) line as well. These people loved changing the spelling of their names. Some censuses show one spelling for the parent and a different one for the children! Never-the-less, I have done well here as well as with the Ewing
