NOTES: The Bible itself no longer exists. The register pages were found by Gillie Hutchings in a trunk belonging to her mother, Claude Franks Hutchings, and are now in the possession of Beth Atchison Thurmond.
According to Mary Bondurant Warren, publisher of Family Puzzlers, this Bible is identifiable by the border designs on the pages as being published by Robinson and Franklin, New York, in 1839. Therefore, many of the entries are after the fact and must have been recorded from memory or an earlier document.
The erasures are obvious and those entries can be reconstructed from other records such as census and wills. It is probably rancor over a will that accounts for them. Daniel Muse's will stated that Andrew Jackson Muse was to have no part of the estate if he didn't repay some loans and the will of Elizabeth J. Muse was contested by other family members.
