DESCENDANTS OF JOHN ANTIL

My grandmother was Eva Antill. She lived most of her life in Greene County, PA. The first record of the Antill family in Greene County was the Muddy Creek Ledger. It was written by a store keeper in the Carmichals, PA area in the 1790's. "The money to pay for these goods appears to have been made by the shipment of flour to New Orleans, and two such shipments, called "Adventures" are mentioned in the ledger. Colonel Ephraim Blaine seems to have been a partner in these "Adventures". The flour was ground at both JOHN ANTILL'S MILL and Francis Seaton's Mill on Muddy Creek. It was floated down to Pittsburgh, where it was inspected and then to New Orleans, where it had to run the gauntlet of the Spanish Customs officers. The first of these "Adventures" took place in 1791, before this Muddy Creek Ledger was started, but it was noted in the entries. The second "Adventure" is given in full and will be the subject of another article. It took place in the Summer of 1793."
