His name is spelled FELDER.
Texas death records have his name spelled as FELTER.
I have a newspaper clipping with a picture of Felter form the early 1920's or 1930's and his name is spelled as FELTON.

Felter is refered to as PAPA by his grandson Charles Jones. The sawmill which Felter operated employed a lot of family and friends during the depression. No one went hungry, he took care of his family. He was known to have carried around a lot of money.

Charles remembers one time that he and his PAPA were going down this dirt road in Felter's 39' Chevy Coop and a bunch of chickens were in the way. Felter tried to missed them, but did manage to kill one of the hens. The woman who owned the chickens explained to Felter that the hen was one of her best laying hens. In response, Felter asked the woman what the hen was worth. The woman replied one dollar. Felter proceeded to pay the woman. As she started to remove the dead chicken, Felter stopped her and replied that the chiken was his, since he paid a dollar for it. That night Felteer and his family had chicken for dinner.

Felter's best friend was a black man, who went by the name of Coon. Coon worked for Felter, and was paid good wages. Coon was able to send his three son's to college. When Felter died, he left Coon his house and property.

Felter was bitten by a rattlesnake just above the boot line. He lanced the area where the snake bit him, he put his boot back on, and walked to Coon's house. Coon poured gasoline into a bucket and had Felter soak his foot while his hitched up the mules to his wagon. Coon loaded Felter into that wagon, and ran those mules all the way to town to the doctor's.

Charles Jones remembers Coon. He use to tease him about the white spots he had on his face. Charles would tell him that he was turning white. When Charles left Zavalla in 1948 to join the service, Coon was still alive, but up in years. His wife had passed on, and his three sons had all left home. From the way Charles speaks about Coon, he was quite the character. He was a dear friend to the Jones family.
