HEART FAILURE
CAUSES THE DEATH OF
JOHN MORRIS, AN OLD CITIZEN
OF NEW PROVIDENCE

John Morris, one of the oldest citizens in New Providence,
expired suddenly Sunday afternoon about 6:30 o'clock
of heart failure. He had been ill for some time, but got up
yesterday and walked a short distance. He was lying down
when he expired.
He was 70 years old, and a member of the Masonic
Lodge. The funeral took place this afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Interment was in the City Cemetery.

John is listed in the 1900 census, Montgomery Co., TN., ED 20, Civil Dist. 7, Pg. 1B, with his family.
Even though his son Blutcher was married to Katie at the time, they are shown living with the family. At the time of this census, Katie was expecting a baby, my grandfather, Clarence Morris.

Nawassa's parentage is uncertain. She is listed with John W. as her father, in the list of people buried in the City Cemetery, Clarksville, Tn. Taken in 1870. It also lists Mary E.(her mother?), and her brother Charles M., with his wife Birdie.
1. Could Nawassa have been a product of John's first marriage to Caroline?(whose mother was full blooded Cherokee). Making Caroline herself a half-breed. This would cause Nawassa's date of birth too be off by 20 years. 2. Or could John W. have fathered Nawassa after he and Mary were married, and Nawassa was taken in as 'their' daughter. 3. Could Caroline be Nawassa's mother?
