From: Sue Stepp To: Lloyd Stuart Chaffey III Subject: Re: Christopher Columbus Stewart Notes I have: In Sep 1777 he enlisted in the Continental Army where he served for two months and fought near Philadelphia PA. He fought both tours of duty as a substitute. He enlisted again in 1779 and served for one year as a wagoneer, hauling ammunition between Reading PA and White Plains NY. In the Spring of 1780, he moved to Wythe Co VA where he again enlisted and served one month as a Pvt In Capt Buchanan's VA Company. He enlisted in Feb 1781 and served two months, then later in the year, he again served two more months. After the war he moved to NC and then on to TN. It is felt that he came to Overton Co TN about 1818/1819. As a Pvt in PA troops American Revolution - was in Battle of Brandywine. His pension application was written in Dutch - could not write English. Received pension beginning in 4 Mar 1831 while residing in Overton Co TN. The pension was $26.66 anually.
