5/20/1924. There was a letter to a Mrs. F.M. Smith of Chattanooga, TN who inquired about Martha Smith's p[pension File. Mrs. Smith was the wife of Frances Marion Smith s/o Monroe Smith. Martha B. (Rudder) Smith would have been Frances Marion Smith's grandmother; he was born in 4/8/1844, so he would have know his grandmother She lived just down the road form the James Monroe Smith plantation. I believe this gives me the prove positive that this is the Sterling Smith who married a Rudder. Descendants we had talked to had said that Sterling Smith's wife was a Nancy Rudder; however, it is certain that Sterling Smith's wife was a Martha B. Rudder (Archive doc. #455)
4/21/1933 There is another letter in the file written to Mrs. Rachel S. Cox (I believe that this is the daughter of Frances Marion Smith & Annie (Nott) Smith):: the letter is signed by A.D. Hiller. This letter goes through the information that is in the above file (Archive Doc. #455)
