Carlton Chitwood, "Just digging for roots!"

I am in need of any information leading to links between my Great-Grandfather, William CHITWOOD, and his ancestors. At present, all that is known is that he probably married Lucy (unknown) and they had at least one child, my Grandfather. His name was William Henry CHITWOOD, b. 25-Feb-????; d. 01-Mar-1940 in Illinois. William Henry CHITWOOD married Ethel Alberta BROCHER, who divorced him and married (unknown) SEGRETS, divorced him and married Melvin NORMAN. Ethel Alberta is believed to have lived with her daughter Bessie (Bess) CHITWOOD until her death. William Henry and Ethel Alberta had nine children, including my father, Melvin Edward CHITWOOD, b. 08-Apr-1925 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois.
I believe most if not all CHITWOOD family members have a common ancestry, and have several hundred names collected, although not yet properly sorted and cross referenced. While I can trace the ancestry of several Williams back to Mathias CHITWOOD, I cannot connect any of them to my lineage. Please let me know if you think I might have information that might help, whether you can help me or not.

As it is still early in my quest, I am only looking for surnames CHITWOOD, and BROCHER, but will expand my search as names are added.
