Robert Henry was the only son of J.M. and Lucy Childs of Covington Kentucky. He had one sister Ellenor. She married
a man named Jefferies and they had one daughter, Nellie Jefferies. Ellenor died when Nellie was quite young.
His parents both died when he was 7 years old. He was reared by his grandparents. Later when he was 27 years old, he came to Indiana and two years later married Frances Ann Rogers, daughter of Peter and Susan Rogers.
They were married July 2, 1881.
We have but little information on the history but that most of his family had died prior to his coming to Indiana.
Frances Ann Rogers was born in Ohio, February 6, 1865. She was the second child of eight. Her mother died in 1876, leaving her with a big responsibility, caring for her brothers and sisters. Her fathers mother, Frances Rogers came to help keep the family together. In 1879 they came to Indiana in a covered wagon and settled just about two miles east of Needmore, Indiana in Brown County.
Three years later, she met and married Robert Henry Childs and moved with him to their home on Owl Creek just a few miles southeast of her home in Needmore.
Her new house was quite small and in time, her and Robert build their new house. In this house was born eleven children, the youngest dying at birth. Robert died February 24, 1914 and Frances continued living in the home until her death on December 3, 1948.
