The Chyba/Tschyba/Chiba Name comes from Böhmen, which was German (or Austrian, if one prefers) until May 1945. From the spring of 1945 forward, and during the post-war years of 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949, first the Czech provisional government and later Czech communist governments forcibly expelled some 3.5 to 4 million Germans from Böhmen and Mähren. Train dates, train stations, destinations and number of persons expelled via cattle cars is known and has been published on the internet. The victorious Allies stood by dumbfounded, or perhaps even pleased, as Czechs ripped apart countryside, villages, small towns and cities, expelling all German-speakers. In the process some 245,000 Sudetengermans lost their lives - too many, in horrendous pogroms, such as the mass crimes committed in Aussig and Prag. Every Sudetengerman expelled was criminalized and denationalized: All personal identity papers and belongings were taken from the expellees, as they were herded into the cattle cars that literally "dumped" them into the sowjet zone (D.D.R.), Bavaria (occuppied by the U.S.A.) or in Austria (occupied jointly by the 4 Allies). Our family was one of the four million post-war Sudetendeutsche expelled from their home(Heim) and homeland(Heimat). We lived in Abertham, near Neudek, our ancestral home in Böhmen until July 1945. Some people wrongly believe World War II ended injustice in Europe; au contraire, for German expellees from the eastern territories of the Deutsche Reich, the war's end brought statelessness (loss of German citizenship), misery ... if not imprisonment, forced labour, torture, rape or death. To keep alive the name of all victims of post-war Czech aggression and Czech post-war crimes, we dedicate our work to uncovering and documenting our Chiba ancestry in Böhmen, Mähren and throughtout the Sudetenland.
