I have been researching the genealogy of my wife's and my family for the past 16 years. These results are documented here and also at both Ancestry.com and at Rootsweb's Worldconnect Project (see link further down this page labeled "Alphabetized Listing of all names in my family tree.")

My paternal ancestry is French Canadian, with my father's family being from Ogdensburg, NY and St.Polycarpe, Quebec. I have been very successful tracing my father's ancestors and have many of the lines back to the late 1600's in Montreal. I have the Cholette name listed through 12 generations, dating back to Sebastien Cholet dit Laviolette moving to Quebec in 1697 and subsequently marrying Anne Heard, an English girl from Dover, New Hampshire, who had been kidnapped by the Indians. One of my goals is to try to identify all the Cholette, Cholet, and Sholette offspring with this family name that have lived in Canada and the US and link them together. To this end, I have over 11,900 names in the tree, with more than half of them Cholettes or offspring of Cholettes.

We also have Italian ancestors from Barga in Tuscany as well as from Campobasso. Some of the many names of interest from there are Castelvecchi, Marchi, Giannone and Pettigrosso.

Additionally, we have many English ancestors from both Somerset as well as Surrey County. Names of interest there include Sealey, Smith, Palmer, Davis and Penfold.

All of our lines are traced back at least six generations with many going back much further into the late 1600s.

The most common surnames listed in our tree are: Cholet (311 individuals), Cholette (1131), Sholette (147), Castelvecchi (79), Giannone (91), Pettigrass and Pettigrosso (85), Richer (126), Palmer (65), Lalonde (89), Paquet and Paquette (50), Montroy and Montreuil (221), Hébert (62), Heard (43), Letts (25), Sealey (57), Davis (27) and Penfold (62).

If you have information on individuals who might be part of this Family Tree, please contact me. I will very gladly provide you the information that I already have in this tree. Living persons are intentionally omitted from my listings on the Internet for confidentiality reasons. Therefore, you should search only on persons who were born before 1910. However, if you need or have information on living people, I will be happy to discuss it with you via email.

    George was the brother of my grandfather, Adelord Cholette. He and two of his brothers remained in Ogdensburg and changed the spelling of their name to Sholette. Essentially all Sholette's in the US can trace their ancestry to one of these three brothers.

    This is the story of Pierre Cholet who was the half-brother of my great-grandfather, Mathias Cholette. In 1845, when Pierre was only 5 years old, he was kidnapped, taken to France and forced to serve in the Navy. He subsequently escaped and spent the next 25 years searching for his family in Quebec. Ultimately, he was successfully re-united with his parents.
