The mainly Cornish ancestry of MARY ELIZABETH CHOWN nee NICHOLLS, which through her mother's family has two blood lines going back directly to the wealthy and influential Huguenot de Rouffignac family in La Rochefoucauld, Angoumois, France. Exiled from France in 1685 following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, Pasteur Jacob de Rouffignac and his family settled in the London area. In 1775 Jacob's grandson William moved to Paul, West Cornwall and his descendants intermarried locally. Through her mother's family Mary also has a blood line going back directly to the Dillon family, who were descended from Sir James Dillon, 1st Earl of Roscommon, and who settled on the Roseland Peninsula in the seventeenth century. The other families connected to Mary's maternal grandmother's family - the Drew, Batten, Pezzack, Pender, Pentreath and Keigwin families - were all fishing people from Mousehole and Newlyn. Mary's mother's paternal side of the family include the Harvey, Simons, Trembath and McClary families, also fishing people from Paul parish. A direct ancestor, Robert McCrarey/McClary, settled in Mousehole from Ireland in 1771.
Mary's father's Nicholls family, nearly all yeoman farmers from the West Cornwall parishes of Madron, Zennor and Gulval, can be traced back to 1590 in Gulval parish. Her paternal 2xgreat-grandmother was Catherine Thomas whose family - also yeoman farmers - can be traced back many generations in Zennor parish. The ancestry of her great-grandmother Mary Ann Jenkin's family, who were blacksmiths at Madron, can be traced back to about 1575 in nearby Morvah parish.
Mary's paternal grandmother's Nicholls, Hill, Calf, Ford and Burge families included shipwrights, mariners and miners and can also be traced back to 17th century Cornwall. Mary's 3xgreat-grandfather, William Hill, a shipwright from St. Michael's Mount, is mentioned in 'The Mount People' by Jane Mason.
Mary married GEORG SEEBOLD in 1970 and was divorced in 1981. They had three children, ROBERT, NICOLE and MARIANNE SEEBOLD. Mary married MELVYN JOHN CHOWN at Penzance in 1986.

The ancestry of MELVYN JOHN CHOWN, who through his mother's family, has a well documented pedigree connected to the family of John and Frances West at Christ's Hospital School, Horsham, Sussex, England. This pedigree goes back numerous centuries and is linked to many noble families of England as well as to royalty. One direct line can be traced back to Adeliza de Louvain (1105-1151) and her second husband William d'Aubigny Earl of Arundel (1102-1176). Adeliza de Louvain was a former Queen Consort of England, because her first husband was King Henry l 'Beauclerc' of England (1068-1135) who was the son of William the Conqueror. This line is through Susan Hungerford the mother of Mary Choke. Gabriel Cox, Mayor of Newbury, Berkshire 1627-1635, was the son of Gabriel Cox who was Mayor of Newbury in 1598. His wife was Mary Choke, the daughter of Richard Choke (grandson of Sir John Choke of Long Ashton, Somerset) and Susan Hungerford (daughter of Sir John Hungerford of Down Ampney, Gloucestershire and his wife,
