Notes for Warner Allen King: In 1900 Warner Allen King was a dentist in Marysville Ohio. He raised bees and subscribed to the Bee Journal. After reading an article by Dr. Morrison, he started corresponding with Dr. Morrison. Dr. Morrison lived near Ignacio, praised the climate, growing conditions, its potential for raising bees, the apiary business and the scenery. From Dr. Morrison he learned about Desert Claims being opened for settlement. Dr. Warner sold his dental practice to his nephew. In 1901 Dr. Warner and family came west on the train. It took them 3 days to get to Ignacio.
Dr. King worked in a dental lab in Durango, Colorado, for a short period of time as he was not licensed to practice or would ever be licensed in Colorado.
He and his wife filed on a section of land right behind Dr. Morrison land, about 3 miles northwest of Ignacio. It was 640 acres.
Warner built their home. They all hauled lumber from the Pine River for the house. There were two rooms up and two rooms down. Their furniture was shipped in September by error to Ignacio, California and it was December before it was shipped back.
In later life, Grandpa and Grandma King offered to sell each of their daughters portions of the homestead. Grandma Kate would buy a portion of the land and her and Jim would build a home on it. Neither home is still standing.
