1. THOMAS1 COMBS was born Abt. 1793, and died Bef. September 1877. He married LUCEY COMBES December 15, 1813 in Wilkes County, NC, daughter of GEORGE COMBS and ANN DENNY. She was born Abt. 1792, and died Aft. 1877.

November 24, 1819 - Thomas Combs received Land Grant # 3165 for 25 acres of land on waters of Hunting Creek adjoining James Johnson; Haden's line, Martin's line - Book #133 P. 389.

1820 Census shows Thomas Combs with 1 male <10, 1 male 26-45, 2 females <10, 1 female 26-45.

December 20, 1828 - Thomas Combs received land grant #3402 for 25 acres of land on waters of Hunting Creek adjoining Haden's old line, Rousseau's line - Book # 138 P. 86.

1830 Census show Thomas Combs with 1 male < 5 (Levi), 1 male 10-15 (Zachariah), 1 male 30-40 (Thomas), 1 female <5 (Clara), 1 female 10-15 (Jane), 1 female 30-40 (Lucy).

December 5, 1831 - Thomas Combs received land grant #3512 for 50 acres of land on waters of Hunting Creek adjoining Haden's old line - Book #139 P. 298.

1840 Census Thomas Combs shows up in Wrights District.

October 9, 1842 - Wilkes County School Census - Head of Household Thomas COMBS, Male children, (Levi COMBS, Zachariah COMBS, Jessie COMBS), female children (Clary COMBS).

December 9, 1842 - Thomas Combs received land grant #4626 for 4 acres of land on waters of Hunting Creek at his own north line - Book #148 P. 135.

December 30, 1848 - John COMBS received land grant #5106 for 42 acres, on waters of Hunting Creek adjoining Thomas Combs, Ingrum Love - file #4965, warrant #8175 filed February 12, 1848 - Book #154 P. 430.

1850 Census show Thomas Combs #278 - Combs, Thomas (57), Lucy (58), Riddle, Jane (33), Combs, Clara (23), Combs, Levy (22), Riddle, Jessie (15), Riddle, Lucinda (13), Riddle, Jacob (12), Sparks, Wesley (16).

October 28, 1853 - Thomas Combs received land grant #5606 for 26.25 acres of land on waters of Hunting Creek at his east line adjoining Zachary Combs - Book #157 P. 436.

1860 Census in Hunting Creek Township shows - Combs, Thomas (67), Lucy (68), Jane (43), Martha (12). There was a Martha Combs listed on the 1850 Census in the household of David Tinsley. She was the only Combs in this household.

1879 - Deed Book E P. 33 - Thomas P. Combs, Administrator to James Combs. This deed made this 16th day of September, 1878 by Thomas P. Combs, Administrator of Thomas Combs deceased of Wilkes County in the state of North Carolina. On the waters of Hunting Creek fifty acre tract adjoining Zachary Combs.

August Term 1800 Inventory Estate of George COMBS deceased - sale of goods went to no COMBS except Peter COMBS, other buyers were William Mills, Isaac Lunsford, James Price, John Standley, Henry Hays, Elijah Vickers, Shadrach Standley, William Silcock, John Armton, John Keaton, Sr.

January 27, 1801 - Will of Edmund Denny - to Ann COMBS wife of George COMBS, and her children and John Baltrip and his children - balance of money arising from sale of estate to be paid to Ann and John annually as needed to care for them and their children.

In June and August of 1801 there was accounts settled against the estate of Edmund Denney and once again the name Ann COMBS appears.

November 5, 1802 - Apprentice Bond - George COMBS bound unto Joshua Souther to learn occupation blacksmith till 21 years. Lucy COMBS bound unto Joshua Souther to learn occupation spinster till 18 years. According to family tradition Joshua Souther was the brother of Jesse Souther who married Jane COMBS on April 1, 1800.
